I've had exactly the same issue. It's making me reluctant to move our FAS to 9.5 if recovering the simulator doesn't look posisble without a rebuild. If anyone's got a howto for recovering it, I'd love to know.

I'm fairly certain that this Sim issue does not affect actual hardware. This happens on Sim because the NVRAM is faked in system memory. Power loss --> NVRAM loss. That wouldn't happen on hardware unless you lost power and then disssambled your controller at least to the point of removing NVRAM battery / memory, then put it back together and powered on. Or left it powered off until the NVRAM bettery discharged. Obviously unnatural acts.
Still, it makes it difficult for people inside NetApp, partners, and customers to dev and test when the Sim looses it's mind after a mere power glitch.

Hello Alex, and thank you for your answer above. I just now noticed ONTAP Select as an evaluation download option. (Maybe it's been there for a while, but I only just noticed it.) Is the picture any different with ONTP Select? I see the following in https://www.netapp.com/us/media/tr-4517.pdf :
"In ONTAP Select 9.5, an AFF-like personality is automatically enabled on new installations as long as the
following conditions are met: DAS storage with SSD drives and a Premium license."
If either of the evaluation experiences, Downloads : Product Evaluation : ONTAP Select or Downloads : Software : ONTAP Select (use in evaluation mode), offers a Premium license evaluation, would we be able to have the AFF personality to demo?

poof, no more reservations. But we still need to reassign disk ownership to our new vsim sysid. So exit the systemshell:
exit
and now you're back at the boot menu, so its option 5 - Maintenance mode
when you eventually get to the *> prompt, type:
disk assign all
halt
Then reboot the sim, and it should be up and running on the new sysid. All you have left is to apply the corresponding license keys for the serial number.

NetApp VSIM ESX 9.5P6 checksum does not match file name
I downloaded vsim version vsim-esx-DOT9.5P6-cm_nodar.ova
The checksum download, MD5Checksums_9.5P6.txt, has listed
vsim-esx-DOT9.5P6-cm.ova
and
vsim-netapp-DOT9.5P6-cm_nodar.ova
I do not see vsim version vsim-esx-DOT9.5P6-cm_nodar.ova
Is this a typo in the MD5Checksums_9.5P6.txt file?

Probably - does the checksum for the nodar file you downloaded match the one in the file for vsim-esx-DOT9.5P6-cm.ova? We only distribute the nodar varients as simulators.

I know You are asking about tech support, but you can try ONTAP Select. There is no ONTAP simulator image for RedHat KVM, but there is ONTAP Select which is officially supported on RedHat Linux with KVM. ONTAP Select can run on a built-in trial license for 90 days, and then you need to reinstall ONTAP Select.
Since ONTAP Simulator & ONTAP Select sharing big about of the same source code, you should convert virtual machine with the simulator and try to run it in KVM; maybe it is gonna work.

0002-266 Admin error: FlexClone is not licensed on storage system during snap connect command
I've configured the snapdrive utility against an DATA SVM in a one node cluster environment because of administration separation issues.
the "snapdrive create" command runs properly but the "snapdrive connect" command raises the 002-266 Error.
The FlexClone license is installed but it shows the type "Node locked" to the Node SVM Name.
Is this only a simualtor behavior and we can avoid this problem in our future Storage System ?

vSim 9.4 on ESX 6.5, starts and proceeds to 25%, then hangs...
I can't load the 9.4 vSim. It loads the .ovf to 25% exactly, then freezes. I tried running it through the OVF tool, but it reports vdisk errors.

Did you pressed cntrl + C for the first time and selected the option 4, for Clean configuration and initialize all disks.

I haven't tried in 9.4, but storage pools have never worked in simulate ONTAP. The file based VHA disks don't survive being partitioned.

It's been a while since I last attempted it, but from what I recall I got the sim to boot, but it didn't have any working network adapters. I got to about the same point on hyper-v. It does work in VirtualBox though, so thats an alternative. Select on KVM does work fine. A few difference of note are:
In Select, commands that don't work (like FC commands) are disabled. In vSim you can use them, they just don't do anything.
In Select, you can't simulate aggrs of different disk types. It's either all vmdisk or ssd depending on how you deploy it.
In Select, your lab implodes every 90 days.
Select also needs significantly more resources than vSim. vSim runs fine of ~5gb ram and 2 vCPU cores. Select needs minimum 16gb and 4 cores, and goes up from there if you want to put it on SSD, plus some additional resources for the deploy VM.
But if you can swing the additional resources and don't mind the periodic total rebuild, its a good alternative.

As Windows AD 2016 seems to have SMB1 disabled by default our customer got alot of problems after updating the AD servers..
